Algerian club MC Alger has moved swiftly to replace South African mentor Rulani Mokwena, who has left the club.

The Ligue 1 leaders have roped in Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia, who takes over from Mokwena.

“The management of MC Alger announces the appointment of Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia as the team’s new head coach until June 2027, succeeding South African coach Rulani Mokwena,” said MC Alger.

Yahia has already overseen his first training session in preparation for the match against USM Khenchela scheduled for this Tuesday.

It is worth noting that Yahia is very familiar with the club, having led them to victory in both the Super Cup and the Professional League title during his last stint with the team last season, as well as reaching the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League.”

Mokwena, meanwhile, is on his way to Libyan side, Al Ittihad.

Interestingly, Ben Yahia was coach of Al Ittihad until recently, but he was sacked despite winning nine of his 10 games in charge. He drew the other game.
