Premier League side Arsenal has to contend with another second-place finish, which has infuriated their multitude of supporters.
The Gunners have played second fiddle to Manchester City and Liverpool over the past three seasons, and in the process, cannot break away from the unwanted tag, the Bridesmaid of English football.
Three seasons ago, Arsenal finished five points behind eventual winners Manchester City, and the following season, the two sides were separated by only two points as City edged their rivals.
This season, champions Liverpool are 12 points ahead with two games to play, while Arsenal has one game left.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained why his team has been far off the pace. “Red cards and injuries, for sure,” Arteta told Sky Sports.
The English media house has reported that Arsenal has endured more injuries than any other Premier League team this season, while their six sending-offs are also a division high.
“But without that, we don’t know what would have happened. Would we have been much closer? For me, the answer is, without a question, yes because of what we have been producing and the performances that we had,” continued Arteta.
“But we’re going to have to do something else (next season) because the bar will be raised.
“And when you look at the points that we’ve had in the last three seasons, the consistency of not winning a title is very rare. So we are very close, so close in the probability that we have to continue to be there and be better.”
