The parliamentary leader of the MK (Umkhonto Wesizwe) Party and deputy president of the party, Dr John Hlophe, has confirmed that the letter removing Nhlamulo Ndhela from the party’s whippery is authentic.

Hlophe told the media in Cape Town a short while ago today that the letter came from his office and stated why Ndhlela was removed as the deputy whip and removed from the party’s whippery.

“Let me confirm categorically that the letter came from my office,” Hlophe said.

This comes after Ndhlela claimed that the letter that was sent to party leader, President Jacob Zuma, detailing unbecoming behaviour by him (Ndlela) and Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla was fake.

During the briefing, Hlophe also said Ndela was removed from the whippery, but showed up in a meeting claiming that he did not get the letter removing him. However, Hlophe said his secretary produced evidence that Ndhlela received the letter.

“The result of that termination meant that he was no longer going to attend those meetings (of the whippery). He rocked up at a meeting and said he did not get the letter; his case was that he did not receive the letter terminating his membership as a whippery. The Chief Whip immediately said at that meeting, if you did not receive the letter, we will give you the letter after the meeting.

“After that, he came to me and raised the issue that he did not receive the letter. I said we can’t talk about the letter that you say you have not even received, once you receive the letter, we may have a discussion along those lines. But also interestingly, at that point his defence or his excuse was that he has not received the letter, he doesn’t know what we are talking about. Alternatively, that his removal must be sanctioned by the President of Umkhonto Wesizwe, which is clearly not the position,” Hlophe said.

Hlophe also refuted claims that there is a petition that has been sent to Zuma calling for the head of Colleen Makhubele as the Chief Whip. He said at the moment, there is no such letter at all.

In other matters, Hlophe announced that they have created a special whippery to deal with land matters. Among the issues the party wants resolved is the issue of Orania in the Northern Cape and Kleinfontein outside Pretoria.

He said the two Afrikaner-only settlements are illegal.

Hlophe also said the MK Party wants the clause that says South Africa belongs to all those who live in it removed, and people should claim the country as their home once they have full citizenship.
