LIMPOPO – A 20-year-old woman from Mailaskop Village outside the Louis Trichardt, has briefly appeared in the Tshitale Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of murder of her infant baby.

Andisani Nthabalala is alleged to have knelt on her baby’s neck and fatally asphyxiated her. The method of killing is similar to that of African American George Floyd Jr murdered by a white police officer Derek Chauvin on May 25, 2020.

The court heard that on the 01 of August 2025, the accused killed her three-month-old infant by pressing her knee against the child’s neck until the baby succumbed to the injuries.

Witnesses attempted to rush the infant to the nearest clinic, but she was certified dead on arrival.

The case has been postponed to tomorrow 12 August 2025 to allow the accused to secure legal representation. She will remain in custody until her next court appearance.
