Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Tlhopie Motsepe has admitted that winning silverware is not enough for the club.

The Brazilians have won the league eight times in a row, turning the Premier Soccer League into a “Pretoria Soccer League,” given their dominance.

Sundowns supporters, however, would be the first to admit they need to do more to fill up the stands, and this view is shared by Motsepe.

“Now, a new season is upon us, and while every season brings new opportunities, this will be different,” he says.

“This season, we will have to answer a question: what kind of club do we want to be? Our players and coaches showed (at the FIFA Club World Cup) that we can compete with the world’s best. But can we, the supporters, show that we are ready to walk that journey with them?

“Can we show up in numbers to Mamelodi Sundowns games? Can we lift our team when hope fades? Can we dominate away stands and turn every stadium into a display of yellow dominance? Big clubs are not only defined by silverware,” he continues.

“But by the size, passion, and consistency of their supporters. This season, we need you more than ever. A re yeng Masandawana, our team needs us.”

Sundowns open their season in the MTN8 Quarter-finals against Richards Bay on Sunday, 3 August, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Motsepe would be hoping his message didn’t fall on deaf ears and the crowd in Atteridgeville would set the tone for the 2025/26 season for Masandawana.
