The Presidents of Mozambique and Ukraine have underscored the growing importance of bilateral partnership and international cooperation following a high-level telephone conversation on Monday between Daniel Francisco Chapo and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The discussion, described by Mozambique’s presidency as constructive and forward-looking, focused on expanding ties across key sectors including agriculture, energy, trade and technical and vocational training. Both leaders expressed a shared commitment to advancing practical mechanisms that can translate diplomatic goodwill into tangible economic and developmental outcomes.
Analysts note that the dialogue comes at a time when global economic uncertainty and security challenges are placing increased pressure on developing economies. President Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s interest in deepening engagement with Mozambique, highlighting potential collaboration in energy supply, digital transformation and food security. In a message shared on social media platform X, he noted that Ukraine is seeking additional energy partnerships, while Mozambique could benefit from Ukrainian expertise in security technologies and systems aimed at protecting civilians and countering emerging threats.
For his part, President Chapo reaffirmed Mozambique’s openness to consolidating bilateral relations, emphasising mutual benefit for both nations. He signalled that Mozambique is keen to leverage international partnerships to accelerate development, particularly in sectors such as agriculture and energy, which remain central to the country’s economic growth agenda.
The leaders agreed to maintain regular contact and to task their respective teams with developing concrete initiatives to strengthen cooperation.
