The Government of Indonesia has announced that the school modernisation programme has created 238,131 jobs across the country. This was reported by ANTARA, citing the Chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Muhammad Qodari.

Schools, in cooperation with parents, independently determine the scope and nature of renovation works. This model provides employment for builders, engineers, project managers and other support staff.

On average, 22 local workers are involved in each project. The programme stimulates the activity of around 58,000 micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises located near school sites. These include local suppliers of construction materials as well as food vendors. This surge in economic activity has led to the development of the transport sector and rental services in these areas.

As of 11 March 2026, reconstruction has been completed at 16,062 schools across the country, nearly reaching the target of 16,167 schools planned for the 2025 fiscal year. The Government has assured that work at the remaining sites will be completed in the near future.

The programme will continue in 2026. Its next target is the renovation of around 71,000 schools. According to government estimates, this will make a significant contribution to regional revenue growth and further development of local economies.
