Nigeria and Egypt have become the first teams to qualify for the knockout phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), currently underway in Morocco.

The Super Eagles and the Pharaohs sealed their last 16 spots over the past couple of days.

Egypt overcame South Africa by a 1-0 scoreline in Agadir on 26 December to confirm the top spot in Group B.

Meanwhile, Nigeria maintained their first place in Group C, following a 3-2 win over Tunisia on Saturday.

As things stand, the powerhouses on the continent look set to reach the Last 16.

Hosts Morocco are first in Group A, ahead of Mali and Zambia, whom they meet in their final group match on Monday.

In Group D, one of the hot favourites, Senegal, is on course to reach the Last 16, while DR Congo is placed second.

The defending champions Ivory Coast will clash against Cameroon late on Sunday, and the winner is likely to win Group F.
