A Johannesburg court has denied bail to Soweto taxi boss Victor Majola, who is accused of orchestrating the murder of well-known DJ and businessman Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock.

Majola, 44, appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday, where judgment in his bail application was delivered in a matter of minutes. The court ruled that his release would not be in the interests of justice, citing the seriousness of the charge and the strength of the state’s case.

Stock, a prominent public figure and owner of a security company, was shot dead on 16 December 2025 in the Johannesburg CBD. He was allegedly killed shortly after installing CCTV cameras at the Zambezi Building, a property linked to investigations into hijacked buildings in the inner city.

In her judgment, Magistrate Annalise Tlhapi said the evidence against Majola was overwhelming and that he posed a flight risk. The court also found that his release could jeopardise the investigation and expose witnesses to possible interference.

“The court finds that there are no exceptional circumstances which, in the interest of justice, may permit the accused’s release on bail. Therefore, bail is denied,” Tlhapi said.

The state has argued that Stock’s murder was a planned hit linked to the work his security company was doing at buildings believed to be controlled by criminal syndicates. Prosecutors said this work may have threatened illegal operations, providing a motive for the killing.

Majola was arrested last year and has remained in custody since then. He faces a charge of murder, with police continuing to investigate the alleged conspiracy behind Stock’s death.

Stock’s killing sent shockwaves through the entertainment and business communities, with tributes describing him as a committed professional who played a role in improving security in Johannesburg’s CBD.

The case has been postponed to 11 February 2026, when Majola is expected to return to court for further proceedings.
