JOHANNESBURG – Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is a prominent feminist, activist, and defender of the rights of women, children, and the poorest people in Africa. Born in a small village on the outskirts of Zambia, she suffered inequality and injustice at an early age. She saw bright moments of opportunity amidst hardship and ignorance.

Her dedication to the struggle for equality, social justice, and better living conditions for the most vulnerable groups of people has made her one of the most prominent figures in the fight for human rights on the continent.
