The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) has expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Regional Court Magistrate Susan du Pisane following her death.
In a statement issued on Monday night, the OCJ said it had learnt with sadness of du Pisane’s passing and extended condolences to those who knew and worked with her during her years in the administration of justice.
The OCJ said du Pisane was a member of the Gauteng Judiciary and served as a judicial officer in the lower courts. She was stationed at the Palmridge Magistrates Court.
Her work formed part of the frontline role performed by magistrates in providing access to justice and supporting the functioning of the courts, the department said.
The OCJ said magistrates serve communities across South Africa and deal with matters that directly affect members of the public.
“The passing of Regional Court Magistrate Susan du Pisane is felt deeply within the broader justice family,” the statement said.
The department said magistrates contribute to the administration of justice at community level through their work in courts across the country.
The Chief Justice extended sympathies to du Pisane’s family and loved ones, as well as to her judicial colleagues and members of the Gauteng magistracy who were mourning her death.
“On behalf of the Judiciary, I extend my sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Magistrate Susan du Pisane. We recognise the service she rendered as a judicial officer and the contribution she made to the administration of justice,” the Chief Justice said.
“We wish her loved ones strength and comfort during this difficult period of mourning,” she added.
The OCJ said further information about memorial and funeral arrangements would be communicated when it became available from the family.
The department did not provide details about the circumstances or cause of du Pisane’s death.
The OCJ said du Pisane’s passing was being mourned within the broader justice community, particularly among judicial colleagues and members of the Gauteng magistracy.
Further announcements regarding arrangements for her memorial and funeral services are expected once details have been made available by her family.
