Frustrated football fans across South Africa are demanding answers after battling to buy tickets for the Nedbank Cup Final.
The final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at the 56,000-seat Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban is scheduled for 10 May at 15H30.
The tickets went on sale on Monday morning, and as expected, the demand was huge despite the cost of R150 per ticket.
However, the ticketing system has more often than not crashed, and fans have been unable to acquire the tickets, while some who purchased online have had their accounts debited but didn’t receive the tickets via email.
Across the country, fans shared images of long queues at outlets such as Checkers, Shoprite and USave, and despite the long wait, many left empty-handed.
These are just some of the issues that have left fans frustrated.
Open Tickets has since released a statement to address the issues.
“Open Tickets regrets the disruption experienced by fans during the ticket sales for the 2025 Nedbank Cup Final,” reads the statement shared with the media on Tuesday morning.
“An unprecedented surge in demand caused system delays shortly after sales opened on Monday, 5 May 2025.
“We understand the frustration this has caused, and we are urgently addressing the matter. A full report will be submitted to the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Affected customers will receive direct communication regarding ticket status, digital reissues, or refunds where applicable.”
Open Tickets concluded, “We remain committed to resolving the issue and restoring full service as quickly as possible. Further updates will be shared via our official platforms.”
