Spanish mentor Jose Riveiro could be tempted to remain in the African continent if reports are anything to go by.
Riveiro is on his way out at Pirates, following a recent announcement by the club that he’s opted not to renew his contract when it expires at the end of June.
Initial reports had suggested that he could be headed to Saudi Arabia or take over the Finland national team, with more reports claiming he’d prefer to be closer to his family in Spain.
Be that as it may, it turns out Egyptian giants Al Ahly would make an attempt to lure him to North Africa.
“Al Ahly club has already contacted the Spanish coach (Riveiro),” a source told Egyptian publication One3.news.
“Al Ahly officials have contacted the Spanish coach via a Zoom meeting to find out all his requests, as well as his aspirations and future plans.
“And if he takes over the technical leadership of the team in the coming period, in the event that Swiss Marcel Koller, the current coach of Al Ahly club, leaves.”
If anything, Riveiro is a man in demand after winning five trophies with the Buccaneers. He’s also in the semi-finals of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League and also in the last four of the 2025 Nedbank Cup.
