The police have officially confirmed that they have arrested three top political office bearers at the Nongoma Local Municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal earlier on Friday.
However, they did not reveal the charges except that the suspects will appear in court on Monday where they would be presented with the charge sheet.
“The SAPS confirms that there are politicians and officials attached to the Nongoma Local Municipality that have been arrested. They are expected to appear in court on Monday morning.
“Further details including the charges they are facing and the number of those arrested will be made available in court,” Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed to the African Times.
The African Times can reveal that the three include one councillor from the National Freedom Party (NFP), and one each from the EFF and the ANC.
The three were nabbed Hollywood style while taking part in a meeting of the council’s executive committee (exco) around 10am today.
They were bundled into a police van and driven to Nongoma Police Station where their fingerprints were taken before they were locked in.
The trio are expected to appear in court on Monday, November 25.
