After a rather long wait, South Africa’s Men Cricket team, the Proteas, has finally lifted the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Championship Trophy.

The Temba Bavuma-led Proteas created history at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, where they beat Australia by five wickets, to win the 2025 ICC World Test Championship Final.

This is South Africa’s first major ICC trophy win after last emerging victorious in the 1998 ICC Knockout Trophy, which is now known as the Champions Trophy.

Over the past 27 years, the Proteas had a ICC Knockout record of two quarterfinals, 12 semifinals and one final, but finally came good on Saturday.

Aiden Markram hit a magnificent 136 and Bavuma chipped in with 66.

“Undeniable. Unstoppable. Unrelenting. History made at the Home of Cricket. South Africa, this one’s for you,” noted Cricket South Africa (CSA).

World Test Championship Final

Australia: 212 & 207 (Starc 58*, Carey 46, Rabada 4/59, Ngidi 3/38)

South Africa: 138 & 282/5 (Markram 136, Bavuma 66 , Starc 3/65)

South Africa win by five wickets.
