The end-of-the-season Premier Soccer League (PSL) awards will take a backseat for now.
The league has confirmed that the awards have been postponed indefinitely to allow Mamelodi Sundowns, the reigning PSL champions, to focus on the CAF Champions League final and the FIFA Club World Cup.
“In recent seasons, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards Ceremony has traditionally been held during the month of June,” the PSL said in a statement on Tuesday.
“However, due to Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club’s participation in both the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2024/25 CAF Champions League Final, the League has taken the decision to postpone this season’s PSL Awards Ceremony.
“The PSL, its member clubs, and all stakeholders in professional football across the country are united in their support for Mamelodi Sundowns as they fly the flag for South African football at these prestigious events.
“The League will communicate the new date and further details of the Awards Ceremony in due course.”
Last year, the awards were held on 23 June.
Sundowns, however, will play their first group stage game in the Club World Cup on 18 June against Ulsan Hyundai, and on 25 June, they’ll face Fluminense to conclude their group stage campaign.
Depending on how they fare in their group, Sundowns may prolong their stay in the United States (US), who are hosts of the Club World Cup.
