Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has paid a glowing tribute to the club, especially the fans, who kept them on their toes on the way to winning the 2025/26 CAF Champions League title.

Sundowns completed a 2-1 aggregate win against Moroccan side FAR Rabat on Sunday to win their second Champions League title.

The first leg ended 1-0 to Sundowns in Pretoria before the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Rabat on Sunday. Williams was once again instrumental and saved a second-half penalty to hand Sundowns the title.

“We deserve it. What this team has been through is not only this season but the last five to six years knocking on the door every season. Playing non-stop, travelling the continent, and not getting over the line,” reflected Williams in a post-match interview.

“To the Sundowns technical staff, the players, and the Masandawana family who have been with us through the difficulty, thank you for the support.

“We also want to thank the fans for the criticism because we know what we are capable of. We know we are the pillar of South Africa—thank you so much,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso also sang the praises of the fans, especially those who made it to Rabat to back the team.

“I dedicate this trophy to the fans who kept believing in us. The fans who kept pushing us, they really deserve this trophy,” said Cardoso.

“It has been hard for my players, and all the credit goes to them. I praise them for the work they have done. It has not been easy for them and for me.”

Sundowns have qualified for the 2029 FIFA World Cup by virtue of being champions of Africa, while they will also compete against USM Alger for the CAF Super Cup.

They also pocket R100 million for winning Africa’s premium club competition.
