South African mentor Rulani Mokwena could be on the move should the Libyan side Al Ittihad succeed in its pursuit of him.

Mokwena is on the radar of Al Ittihad despite being on a two-year contract with Algerian club MC Alger, whom he joined last year.

The 39-year-old has established himself in North Africa, where he guided Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca before taking up the job at MC Alger, who are top of the standings in Algeria.

Al Ittihad, meanwhile, have been in the news in recent times, having acquired the services of South African playmaker Thembinkosi Lorch and Burkinabe attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki.

Mokwena’s links with Al Ittihad come on the back of the Libyans parting ways with their head coach, Khaled Ben Yahia, who hails from Tunisia.

Yahia’s departure came as a shock. He had won nine (9) out of 10 games, with the other result being a draw, meaning he was sacked despite not losing a game.

Al Ittihad will certainly face strong resistance from MC Alger, who are top of the log despite having four games in hand, halfway through their season.

Ironically, Mokwena replaced Yahia at MC Alger when he took over in July 2025.
