Russia and Ethiopia have taken steps to deepen bilateral economic cooperation following a series of high-level meetings during an official visit by Russia’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Aleksey Gruzdev to Ethiopia, reports the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

The central talks took place with Ethiopia’s Minister of Industry, Melaku Alebel, where both sides discussed expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including agricultural and energy machinery, pharmaceuticals and unmanned technologies. The dialogue highlighted a shared interest in strengthening industrial capabilities and developing joint production projects.

A key outcome of the visit was the exploration of opportunities within Ethiopia’s first state-owned special economic zone. The parties agreed to further examine conditions for localising Russian manufacturing facilities at the site, signalling a move towards deeper industrial integration and technology transfer.

In addition, the Russian delegation held talks with Ethiopia’s Minister of Agriculture, Addisu Arega, focusing on enhancing cooperation in the agricultural sector. Discussions centred on increasing productivity through the introduction of modern mechanisation and advanced farming solutions.

Officials noted that the outcomes of the visit reflect a broader effort to strengthen economic ties, expand industrial cooperation and support sustainable development through joint projects in key sectors.
