The Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has stressed the importance of this new structure, noting that it will be responsible for projects and programmes aimed at young people, who make up a significant proportion of the population in the region. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

Statistics show that about 75 per cent of the population of SADC member countries are young people under the age of 35.

Chairperson of the SADC Beatriz Morais said another aspect addressed at the Council of Ministers was the realisation of the SADC Transformation University, which was approved in 2015 but has not yet been operationalised.

“The Ministers directed the Secretariat to mobilise funds to start work on the curriculum and everything related to the establishment and operation of the University,” Beatriz Moraissaid said, outlining the functions of the structure.

Together with the Youth Cabinet, it should enable young people to receive additional training in various fields such as entrepreneurship and information technology, she explained.
