Former Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki is set to take over as the technical director for the South African Football Association (SAFA).
The Association’s technical committee has opted for Ntseki to replace Dr Walter Steenbok, who had been in the position from September 2022 until stepping down in April 2025.
Ntseki is a familiar face at SAFA House, having been Bafana Bafana coach from 2019 to 2021, when he was sacked after the national team failed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach has also served in SAFA’s structures for years, and the technical committee believes he’s the right man for the job.
“The SAFA Technical Committee recommended to the NEC that Molefi Ntseki should be appointed as the Association’s Technical Director and Desiree Ellis should be appointed as the coach of the South African senior women’s national team, Banyana Banyana. The Technical Committee recommended that they both be appointed on four-year contracts, and the NEC endorsed both recommendations,” reads a statement from SAFA.
“Ntseki has already had several engagements with FIFA, and the world football governing body has agreed to support his programmes. FIFA has appreciated the fact that the South African national teams are doing well, with both the SA U17 and the U20 teams participating in FIFA World Cup tournaments this year.”
The 56-year-old is expected to put pen to paper soon.
