The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has raised several off-the-field concerns ahead of the final game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, pointing fingers at host nation Morocco.
Senegal will meet Morocco in Sunday’s decider at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium, but the FSF has alleged maltreatment by the hosts.
The Teranga Lions travelled by train from Tangier to the capital Rabat on Friday and, on arrival, questioned the alleged inadequate security and poor accommodation, amongst the various issues raised in their statement.
“The FSF deplores the clear absence of adequate safety devices when the Senegalese delegation arrived at the Rabat railway station,” reads the FSF statement, adding that the situation exposed players and officials “to a promiscuity and risks incompatible with the standards of a competition of this magnitude and the standing of a continental final.”
“Regarding hotel logistics, the FSF informs that an official protest by mail was necessary to win the case, and a 5-star hotel was finally awarded to the Lions, thus guaranteeing the required recovery conditions.”
The FSF has also claimed sporting unfairness over the proposed training venue.
“The FSF has officially notified the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of its categorical refusal to hold its training sessions at the Mohammed VI Complex. This is the base camp of the opposing team, which raises a problem of sporting fairness.”
The FSF added, “The Senegalese Football Federation calls on the CAF and the Local Organizing Committee to take all immediate corrective measures to ensure respect for the principles of fair play, equal treatment, and safety, essential to the success of this African football festival.”
CAF is yet to comment on the allegations.
