The embattled Minister of Police, who is currently on special leave, Senzo Mchunu, says his accuser, Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, keeps on shifting the goalpost regarding the allegations against him.

Mchunu says Mkhwanazi keeps on making new accusations against him, but produces no evidence to back up the claims he makes.

Mchunu said this in a statement he issued on Friday, following Mkhwanazi’s appearance before the ad hoc committee in parliament, which was probing allegations of political interference and criminality in the police force.

According to Mchunu, these allegations are untrue and unfounded, and he adds that they are deliberately intended to tarnish his reputation.

“I reject these allegations totally. I would like to reiterate that I am not part of any criminal syndicate of any kind. I am part of those who are fighting against corruption in the country and my record in Government speaks for itself.

“I also want to take this opportunity to clarify a matter that has been mentioned on a number of occasions by different witnesses regarding a private email to which Chief of Staff sent the letter of directives. in addition to others. I want to confirm that the private email is mine as I indicated before.

“I also note that Lt General Mkhwanazi now finally concedes that I am the sole author of the letter of directives with input from the Special advisor Adv V (Vusi) Pikoli,” Mchunu said.

Furthermore, Mchunu said it is troubling to him that Mkhwanazi is a complainant on this matter, but at the same time, he is intimately involved in the investigation and from time to time, he talks about prosecution in the same matter and also makes judgmental comments, saying that he is guilty of defeating the ends of justice.

“His disclosure of the forensic report discovered on my gadget but find itself to him as a complainant is further indicative of the manipulation of the investigation. Given the above, I am demanding that LT General Mkhwanazi provides evidence in support of all the allegations he has made to the Madlanga Commission.”
