Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov addressed the participants of the first meeting of BRICS Sherpas and Sous-Sherpas, which is being held in Moscow from 30 January to 1 February in the year of Russia’s chairmanship in the group.

The foreign minister noted that the collective approach that the BRICS countries and a huge number of their supporters are pursuing is the dictates of the times.

“We see in BRICS a prototype of a multipolar world, the formation of which for the sake of a brighter and more harmonious future of our peoples we are all trying to promote” Said Sergey Lavrov.

He emphasised that interaction in BRICS is based on the principles of mutual respect, independent choice of development path by each country and ensuring in practice the key point of the UN Charter – sovereign equality of states.

“The accession of new members to BRICS strengthens the strategic partnership and international positions of our association”, admitted Lavrov.

According to him, a large number of countries are showing interest in joining the alliance. The minister also added that the alliance is capable of shaping the global agenda, consistently defending the interests of the world majority and offering its vision of the contours of the future world order.

More than 200 events are expected during the Russian BRICS chairmanship in 2024, including about 10 at the ministerial level. This is reported by TV BRICS.
