Limpopo – A 38-year-old man is expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow after he was arrested for the brutal murder of his 61-year-old mother at Glen Cowie, Mochadi village, on Wednesday.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the police received a call from one of the community members at about 10:00 in the evening reporting that a man killed his mother.

Upon their arrival, the police found the lifeless body of an elderly woman lying in a pool of blood inside her house with multiple stab wounds.

“Our preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had appeared at the Nebo Magistrate’s Court the previous day, Tuesday, 19 August 2025, where she had obtained a protection order against the suspect, who is her son. The order stated that the suspect should vacate the victim’s residence with effect from 1 September 2025. However, following further deliberations on Wednesday, it was decided that the suspect should leave the house immediately due to his troublesome behaviour, as he had been staying with the victim,” she said.

“It is alleged that the suspect fatally attacked his mother inside the house later that day. He was swiftly arrested by police and has since been charged with murder,” said Brigadier Mashaba.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned this heinous incident, describing it as a disturbing act of gender-based violence that has robbed a family of a mother in the most brutal manner.
