Morocco now remains the only African representative at the FIFA U20 World Cup after Wednesday’s action.
South Africa’s side, Amajita, endured a terrible day in Talca, Chile, where they were outplayed by Colombia, who had a great start, scoring within ten minutes of the match.
The South Americans went on to win 3-1.
Amajita, who were in the Round of 16 for only the second time in history, fought back early in the second half, earning a penalty that was put away by Mfundo Vilakazi to draw level.
Colombia, however, proved they were a class above by finishing off strongly to book their spot in the Quarterfinals, and they’ll meet Spain.
Nigeria, meanwhile, will also pack their bags and head home following a 4-0 thumping by Argentina in a match played in Chile’s capital, Santiago.
Africa will now pin its hopes on Morocco, who are in action in the early hours of Friday morning against the Republic of Korea in Rancagua.
Ghana remains the only African country to win the FIFA U20 World Cup, achieving the feat in 2009 when they beat Brazil 4-3 on penalties in a tournament hosted by Egypt.
