The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has given KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi until 19 March 2025 to submit a sworn statement regarding an investigation against him. The majority of the expired foodstuff uncovered in the two warehouses in Durban originated from either Nigeria in West Africa and India, in Asia, police said. KZN Police Raid Contaminated Food Factory

Kwazulu-Natal police, led by Provincial Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, have raided a factory in which expired and contaminated food items are stored before distribution to the various wholesalers and spaza shops. This is part of a campaign against contaminated food announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last week following the deaths of 22 schoolchildren nationwide from food poisoning.
