Center-back Rushine De Reuck has penned a new contract with Tanzanian club Simba following some impressive performances.

The 30-year-old arrived at Simba in July last year, and he is now the captain of the team.

“Rushine De Reuck has signed a new one-year contract to continue at Simba SC,” announced the club.

Initially, the Cape Town-born defender was on a one-year deal before the agreement to add another twelve months.

“It’s a good feeling, obviously. Coming here, I didn’t have any expectations of becoming a team captain,” reacted De Reuck.

“I know that, considering my age, I am a little bit older than most of the players here. So I knew that I was going to take a leadership role. I am willing to do that gladly, and I am obviously a little bit more experienced than most of the guys. So I needed to do that.

“Coach Fadlu (Davids) brought me here, and he made me aware of that. So I was ready for that. So now that I am captain, obviously, it’s a different responsibility,” he continued.

“But it’s such a privilege for me to come to a team like Simba and captain them. It’s not only me, but there are a lot of captains in the team, so you don’t need to have an armband to feel like a captain.”

Simba is currently third in the standings and eight points behind rivals, Young Africans.
