The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has seen a major change with the appointment of their new Football Association President, Abdoulaye Fall.

Fall takes over from Augustin Senghor, who had been at the helm since 2009.

“Let’s build a stronger, fairer, and more ambitious football around pass and control,” said Fall after he came to power over the weekend.

Fall’s ascendancy to the top seat wasn’t without difficulties. The elections were marred by disagreements over the electoral process and required police intervention.

Fall won a large majority in the first round (301 votes) against Mady Touré (116), but he was short of the two-thirds majority to win the presidency in the first round.

With just 92 votes, Senghor withdrew from the second round of voting, denouncing questionable election practices.

Fall won the second round of the election with 321 votes against 30 for Mady Touré, with more than 100 of the eligible voters abstaining in the second vote.

The 56-year-old Fall has long served as a member of the Football Senegal Federation (FSF) executive committee. He also chairs local club Bambey FC, who play in Senegal’s second tier.
