Thohoyandou – Three kids died in a house fire at Itsani village near Thohoyandou yesterday.
Spokesperson for the Limpoplo SAPS Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the three, a 4-year-old boy and his two sisters aged 2 and 3 were burnt beyond recognition when left unattended by their young mothers.
Mashaba further said the police received a phone call from one of the community members about a house fire with kids inside at around 12 noon.
“The police rushed to the scene and found fire fighters busy putting down the blaze. It is heartbreaking that when the fire was extinguished we found three kids, a boy and two girls burnt beyond recognition,” She said.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the kids were playing outside of the house and it is not clear how the kids ended up inside the house. The police have opened an inquest docket,” She said.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe directed that experts be summoned to assist in the investigation.
Hadebe also directed that Police should explore the possibility of laying a charge of negligence to parents or guardians.
