North Africans Tunisia have sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi following a disappointing start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

The decision comes after the heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match, bringing an abrupt end to his short spell in charge. He had been at the helm for only five months.

According to ESPN, the Carthage Eagles’ preparations were further disrupted by the presence of the head coach’s son within the training camp, despite him not being an official member of the delegation, with Lamouchi forced to explain the presence of his family with the team on several occasions.

He will be replaced by Mondher Kebaier, who previously managed the national team from August 2019 to January 2022.

Tunisia will next be up against Japan on Sunday, 21 June, at the Estadio Monterrey in Mexico.

They will conclude the group stage when they take on the Netherlands on Friday, 26 June, in Kansas City, United States.
