Univen Student Under Police Guard for Girlfriend’s Murder on Campus

Thohoyandou – A 20-year-old University of Venda student is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday August 31, 2025 for allegedly killing a girlfriend aged 20, on campus today Saturday August 30, 2025.

Spokesperson for the SAPS in the Limpopo Province Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said members of the SAPS received a call about the murder of a fellow student within the university campus.

“On their arrival, a security guard led them to the residential site of students where they found a lifeless body of a female lying in a pool of blood with multiple wounds on her upper body,” he said.

“It is alleged that the suspect was with her girlfriend in his room when they started fighting. After a moment, there was a loud noise of onlookers screaming. Both the suspect and the deceased are confirmed to be students at the University of Venda,” she said.

“The emergency medical services personnel were summoned where they certified her dead on the scene,”

“The suspect tried to evade arrest by jumping through the window from the third floor, and he sustained injuries and is currently admitted in one of the hospitals receiving treatment under police guard,” said Brig Mashaba.
