The on-ice Minister of Police, and ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Senzo Mchunu, has come out to refute allegations that have been made against him by Witness E at the Madlanga Commission on Monday this week.
Mchunu said the allegations are not true, and he will seek the right to respond at the commission.
Witness E is an intelligence operative who is now under witness protection due to safety fears. Among the allegations was that Mchunu traced him and directed him to file a false statement to the Madlanga Commission, which would help him get off the hook.
He also alleged that Mchunu wanted to know from him whether or not former Police Minister, Bheki Cele, and the Head of SAPS Crime Intelligence, were involved in the 2017 killing of Sindiso Magaqa. Despite being told that the two were innocent, as they were not part of the police structures that aided the hitmen who killed Magaqa, Witness E alleged that Mchunu insisted that they were involved.
Furthermore, Witness E alleged that Mchunu developed a keen interest in the Magaqa case to the extent that after every sitting, he would call him and discuss. At some point, Witness E alleged that Mchunu wanted his lawyers to go and obtain a statement from Sbusiso Ncengwa, one of the killers of Magaqa, who has since confessed and is serving a life sentence behind bars.
But Mchunu has now denied these allegations, saying he had no interaction with Witness E, despite that there is a recorded call between the two of them that was played at the Madlanga Commission to prove that they were in touch.
“I have taken note of the evidence that was presented by the second witness at the Madlanga Commission yesterday the 26 th of January 2026 who was referred to as witness E.
I deny the allegations he makes about me including the interactions on his statements. I’m aware that I am due to appear again at the commission and I will seek to respond. My lawyers are already dealing with the matter,” Mchunu said in a statement late on Tuesday.
