Egyptian club Zamalek has fired Portuguese coach José Peseiro and appointed a caretaker coach.
Peseiro’s troubles started when Zamalek, who were the CAF Confederation Cup defending champions, were sent packing in the semi-finals by South African side Stellenbosch.
The former Nigeria coach joined the North Africans barely three months ago, on 14 February, but the results have left a lot to be desired.
In 17 matches under Peseiro, they won seven games, drew eight, and suffered two defeats.
“An agreement has been reached between Zamalek and coach Jose Peseiro to mutually terminate the contract. We wish you the best in your future endeavors,” the club announced.
Ayman El Ramadi has been appointed caretaker coach while the search begins for Peseiro’s replacement.
In recent weeks, Zamalek has been linked with South African coach Dr. Pitso Mosimane.
Should Mosimane land the job, he’d become only the sixth coach in history to have managed both Zamalek and their rivals Al Ahly.
Peseiro was the fifth coach to do so, having previously guided Al Ahly.
