Ex-Zambian international Evans Kangwa has announced he will retire from active football in just over four months.

The winger, who won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with Chipolopolo, says the time has come to call it a day. He is 33 years old.

“As I write to you, my heart is filled with both gratitude and emotion. After many years of dedication, sacrifice, joy, and unforgettable experiences in the beautiful game, I have made the decision that in June 2026 I will officially retire from active football,” wrote Kangwa on his official Facebook page.

He started his professional career at Nkana before switching overseas, where he played in Russia, Israel, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. Kangwa then returned to Nkana last year but parted ways with the club in January and moved to Green Eagles.

Kangwa continued, “Football has given me far more than I could ever have imagined, from brotherhood to life lessons, challenges, victories, and memories that I will carry with me forever. Among the most cherished of those are the moments we shared on the pitch, wearing the same colours, fighting for the same badge, celebrating victories, and overcoming difficult moments together.

“To mark this important chapter in my life, I am organizing a farewell match that will bring together both former and current teammates who have been part of my journey. As fans of the beautiful game, you are one of those who made this journey meaningful, and your presence, whether in person or in spirit, would mean a great deal to me.

“Your presence will not simply be a formality; it will serve as a lasting reminder of the bonds we built, the battles we fought side by side, and the brotherhood that football created between us.

“Above all, thank you for everything. It has truly been an honour. Hope to see you at the match.”

Thus far, he’s made 338 appearances in his pro career, boasting 100 goals.

For Chipolopolo, Zambia’s senior national team, Kangwa featured 29 times.
