Warriors skipper Marvelous Nakamba has moved to English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday from Luton Town on a free transfer.
The experienced defensive midfielder joins Wednesday for the remainder of the current campaign, but there’s little he can do to save them from relegation.
Currently at the bottom of the standings with -7 points, Sheffield Wednesday’s days in the Championship are numbered.
They were deducted a total of 18 points after going into administration for financial breaches.
Nakamba, however, will welcome the opportunity to play regular football again.
He began his career with Bantu Rovers in his homeland and moved to French side AS Nancy in 2012, staying across Europe for two seasons.
Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands was his next port of call for a three-year stint before switching to Belgian outfit Club Brugge in 2017.
The 32-year-old rose to prominence on these shores two years later with a switch to Premier League Aston Villa, making 58 top-flight appearances over four seasons in the Midlands.
Nakamba then headed south to join Luton Town on loan in January 2023 and quickly became a fans’ favourite at Kenilworth Road, helping the Hatters to Premier League promotion via the play-offs.
He signed for Luton on a permanent basis the following summer and posted 14 Premier League appearances, then a further 23 in the Championship, the second tier of English football.
Nakamba has a rich pedigree in the international arena, making his debut for Zimbabwe aged just 21 and going on to captain the Warriors.
The midfielder has 36 caps and has represented Zimbabwe in the African Cup of Nations across three separate tournaments, including 2025, when he wore the armband.
