South Africa’s Akani Simbine is proving to be the man to beat in 2025 after claiming back-to-back Diamond League wins in the men’s 100m.

Simbine edged Olympic silver medalist Kishane Thompson from Jamaica in Shanghai, China, on Saturday, going under 10 seconds again with a time of 9.98s.

Thompson was close in 9.99s, while Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo came third in 10.03s.

Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala was far off the pace in 9th place in 10.25s.

Last week, Simbine beat a strong field at the Xiamen Diamond League in 9.99 seconds.

Before heading out to Asia, Simbine had claimed victory at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix with this year’s world-leading time of 9.90s, ahead of Omanyala (10.00).
