SA U20 goalkeeper Fletcher Smythe-Lowe has signed a new three-year deal with Portuguese side Estoril Praia.

The 18-year-old has been in the news lately after he was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The SA U20s Amajita won the tournament for the first time ever.

Nicknamed The Wall of Kommetjie, Smythe-Lowe has been at Estoril Praia since the beginning of the 2024/25 season. Previously, he was at Portuguese powerhouse Benfica.

“I’ve felt very good since I arrived at Estoril Praia. I was welcomed with open arms by the entire structure. My coaches taught me a different way of playing football, and I grew a lot on a human level,” says Lowe.

“There is no feeling like playing for the U23s. We all worked hard to reach this step, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to play. Here, I found the stability I needed, and I hope that, together, we can achieve our goals,” he concludes.

Smythe-Lowe is expected to play a key role when Amajita features in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile from late September.

The draw for the tournament is this Thursday.
