Yet another prayer has been organised for the embattled Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, as he prepares for his return to the Madlanga Commission and salvages his teetering political career.

This is the third prayer for Mchunu within a space of three months.

The first prayer was held in Mpumalanga province, but he did not attend the event, although he had authorised it after he was asked to do so by the organisers.

The second one was held at his home in eMpangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal, which he attended and received prayers from a group of pastors.

The latest prayer session will be held at the famous Greyville racecourse in Durban, the home of the Durban July. It will be held at 6 pm on Saturday and graced by top gospel artists like Ayanda Ntanzi, Babo Ngcobo, Abanqobi and Mpumi Mtsweni.

Mchunu’s spokesperson, Sithembiso Mshengu, confirmed the prayer service and said it is being conducted independently.

“These are independent faith groups coming together on a holy journey to worship for the delivery of Mr Mchunu from the unfounded accusations that led to placement on a special leave.

“This service is not sanctioned by Mr Mchunu but he is aware of it,” Mshengu said.

At the Madlanga Commission, Mchunu is battling allegations that he unilaterally disbanded the political killings task team (PKTT).
