The former Secretary-General of the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Partym Floyd Shivambu has revealed the actual reason why he was fired from the position early this month.
According to him, it was not true that he was fired for visiting the church of fugitive Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi over the 2025 Easter weekend.
He told a press conference in Midrand in Johannesburg that a fake intelligence report was concocted and it was claimed that he was working towards overthrowing former president Jacob Zuma as the leader of the party.
He claimed that fake recordings purportedly of him speaking to some African leaders were presented. He also claimed that it was said he was amassing African magic to achieve this.
“That I want to overthrow President Zuma as the President of Umkhonto Wesizwe, that is what was said, that all the work we were doing as Secretary-General of establishing structures and identifying leaders was meant ultimately at the removal of president Zuma as president of Umkhonto Wesizwe.
“And as part of that reason, an extremely bizarre and fake intelligence report was produced which was claimed to be a conversation between me and some people in the African continent where it is alleged that despite raising money to remove president Zuma, I am also accumulating super natural powers to make people disappear,” he said.
In his no holds barred press conference, Shivambu also said Zuma is surrounded by “political scoundrels” who are taking advantage of his age and kindness to influence him to take decisions that favours their agendas.
It was in the same press conference that Shivambu revealed that there is massive looting of MK Party funds by some members and when he raised the matter, he got fired like all previous Treasurer-Generals.
From here, Shivambu says he would now embark on a process to consult with South Africans on whether a new political party should be formed and participate in the country’s political landscape. Among those he counted as those he was going to consult are Dr Irvin Khoza, Kaizer Motaung and Patrice Motsepe.
“We are going to be convening the process of consulting the people of South Africa on the formation of a political movement that will be thorough the representation of the people of South Africa and not a personal project, and not a group of friends projects, not a cult and not a fiefdom. So, over the next few months we will be consulting all the traditional leaders, we will be consulting all the church leaders, religious leaders and different institutions,” he announced on Thursday.
Despite all these developments, Shivambu says he remains a member of the MK Party and he will not resign from it.
