The online conference BRICS Youth ESG Dialogue between Moscow and Gurugram (Haryana) concluded, bringing together academics, researchers and students from India, Russia, China and other BRICS countries. The event was organised by the Centre for BRICS Studies at Amity University Haryana, a TV BRICS partner.

The teleconference featured expert presentations from Amity University Haryana and Kazan Federal University, covering a wide range of topics, including sustainable urban development, energy efficiency, ESG reporting in universities, investment evaluation methodologies, and education for sustainable development in the BRICS+ context.

Opening the dialogue, Prof. (Dr). Vikas Madhukar, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dean of Management Studies Faculty, and Director of Amity Business School at Amity University Haryana, underlined the significance of youth participation in sustainability-driven initiatives and knowledge exchange across BRICS nations.

“What gives me great hope is that young researchers from BRICS nations don’t just study the Sustainable Development Goals, but they live them. They come from communities where these challenges are real and immediate, and that gives their work both urgency and authenticity,” he said.

A substantial part of the programme was dedicated to sustainable urban development, presented by Prof. (Dr). Panuganti Devara, Director and Head of Amity Centre of Excellence in Ocean-Atmospheric Science and Technology, who highlighted the scientific and policy dimensions of climate resilience, resource efficiency, and environmental monitoring.

“Extensive discussions were held between the audience and expert speakers related to the fundamental processes, current advances and future scope in science education and technology networks with low-cost, portable monitoring tools, computational methods and multi-dimensional mapping of several parameters that help educate the spatio-temporal evolution of various processes of different scale sizes embedded in Global Climate Change Scenarios,” Panuganti Devara emphasised.

Further contributions addressed ESG integration into investment decision-making, corporate value assessment, university-level ESG reporting practices, energy efficiency as a driver of economic growth, and the role of urban green spaces in sustainable city development.

Harneet Kaur, Assistant Professor at the Amity School of Architecture and Planning, Amity University Haryana, stated that her presentation focused on energy efficiency as a key driver of sustainable economic growth, using India’s experience to highlight how policy, technology, and large-scale programmes can align development with climate goals.

“The audience showed strong engagement, reflecting the growing importance of energy and sustainability in global discourse. A central theme across discussions was the need to balance growth with environmental responsibility through innovation, policy support, and collaboration within BRICS countries. Such events are crucial for sharing context-specific solutions and strengthening cooperation among emerging economies. Young researchers, in particular, have an important role to play by contributing innovative, interdisciplinary, and locally relevant approaches to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” she said.

The conference also included an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students from India and Russia engaged directly with speakers, raising issues related to balancing economic development with environmental protection and exploring future pathways for sustainable innovation.

In total, around 80 participants joined the teleconference online, contributing to an active and constructive academic dialogue.
