South African football fans can look forward to another thrilling chapter of knockout football as the 2026 Carling Knockout Cup prepares to kick off, with defending champions Orlando Pirates determined to keep their hands firmly on the trophy.
The launch and Round of 16 draw took place in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, setting the stage for a competition expected to deliver drama, fierce rivalries and unforgettable moments as all 16 Betway Premiership clubs battle for domestic silverware.
The Buccaneers will begin their title defence against newly promoted Milford FC at Orlando Amstel Arena, in a clash that presents the Soweto giants with an immediate test of their championship ambitions. The match will also mark Milford’s debut in the competition, giving the KwaZulu-Natal newcomers an opportunity to make an early statement against the reigning champions.
Pirates enter the tournament looking to build on their success in the previous edition, when they defeated Marumo Gallants in the final in Polokwane. Having established themselves as one of the country’s leading contenders for domestic honours, the Buccaneers will be eager to demonstrate that last season’s triumph was the beginning of another successful chapter rather than a one-off achievement.
However, the road to defending the crown will not be straightforward.
Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and several ambitious Premiership sides will be determined to prevent Pirates from enjoying another memorable cup campaign.
Sundowns have been drawn against last campaign’s runner-up, Marumo Gallants, setting up a repeat of last season’s Round of 16 encounter. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs will host TS Galaxy as they seek to turn their ambitions into silverware.
Other intriguing fixtures include AmaZulu FC against Kruger United, Golden Arrows against Chippa for mistakes, every team will know that one difficult afternoon could bring its cup ambitions to an abrupt end.
The competition is scheduled to begin on the weekend of 24 October, with the final scheduled for December. The dates, venues and kick-off times for individual Round of 16 matches are still to be confirmed by the Premier Soccer League.
This year’s campaign puts supporters firmly in the spotlight through the new Champion Coach Experience, allowing fans to predict starting line-ups using unique codes from promotional Carling Black Label packs.
Accurate predictions could earn instant prizes and move fans up the leaderboard for a chance to enjoy a special experience at the final.
Supporters can also vote for the Carling Knockout Cup Champion of the Match. One lucky fan who correctly predicts the Man of the Match stands a chance to win R10,000.
Carling Black Label Brand Director Kerryn Greenleaf said the initiative builds on the brand’s commitment to giving supporters a meaningful voice in football.
“Football fans have always coached from the sidelines,” Greenleaf said, explaining that the campaign gives them an opportunity to test their knowledge and be rewarded.
