KwaZulu-Natal side Durban City could be set for a reunion with German mentor Ernst Middendorp following the departure of Gavin Hunt.
Middendorp, who was with the club earlier this season, is in the conversation after the decision to part ways with Hunt, who reportedly had disagreements with club boss Farook Kadodia, over the transfer dealings, amongst other things.
The club had started the 2025/26 season with Middendorp serving as Technical Director, but he later left his position, with reports at the time claiming he had run-ins with Hunt.
Meanwhile, Durban City have officially confirmed Hunt’s sacking, with Pitso Dladla taking over in the interim.
“Durban City Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Gavin Hunt has left the Club by mutual consent,” reads the statement.
“The decision follows a review of the footballing strategy conducted by the Board of Directors, which concluded a new approach is required to achieve the Club’s objectives.”
Club Chairman Farook Kadodia stated, “This was a mutual decision, taken with the Club’s best interests at heart. I’d like to thank Gavin personally for his hard work and dedication, and we all wish him well for the future.”
Durban City will play Orbit College in Wednesday’s Betway Premiership fixture in Rustenburg, North West.
“It is now the right time for change as we look to build a competitive side with the future in mind,” Kadodia added.
The Club will utilise the upcoming break during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to conduct its appointment process for a permanent successor. This timeline is designed to allow the new Head Coach a clear period to prepare the squad for the second half of the season.
