The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is boosting its political fire power in the Western Cape by appointing fresh provincial leaders.
This is after the party’s national leadership appointed Thozama Lithakong as the new provincial secretary and Ntsikelelo Tyandela as the deputy provincial secretary in the province, considered the DA’s stomping ground.
The appointments were communicated to the two fighters on May 5, 2025 (yesterday) by Marshal Dlamini, the Secretary-General of the red berets.
“The officials, in their meeting held on the 5th of May 20255, resolved on your appointment as the Provincial Secretary of the Western Cape. Accordingly, you are hereby notified of your immediate appointment as the Provincial Secretary of the Western Cape Province.
“You are directed to assume your roles and responsibilities with immediate effect, which includes but are not limited to the following: convey, communicate and articulate key decisions of the EFF at the provincial level… and coordinate the implementation of the province’s programme of action,” reads the letter Dlamini sent to Lithakong.
An almost similar worded letter was sent to Tyandela, who is going to deputise Lithakong.
The national spokesperson for the party, Sinawo Tambo, said the appointment of the two follows the removal of the previous Provincial Secretary, who was accused of misrepresentation of qualifications, which led to the Deputy Secretary being in an acting capacity for a period of time.
“This is in accordance with the EFF constitution, Section 14 to be exact. In accordance with the EFF Constitution, the Deputy Secretary has now been appointed as the Secretary to fill that vacancy, and due to the vacancy that arose as a result of her appointment as the Provincial Secretary, a Deputy Secretary was then appointed as well,” Tambo told African Times.
