Espérance forward Elias Mokwana is a Tunisian Ligue 1 champion in his first season with the club.

Mokwana was on the scoresheet in Espérance’s 5-0 emphatic win over Olympique Béja on Sunday to secure the title, becoming the first South African to win the league title in Tunisia.

This was Taraji’s 34th league title, which is a record in the Tunisian league.

The Bafana Bafana winger came close to success in the CAF Champions League, but they were knocked out by Mamelodi Sundowns at the semi-final stage last month.

Espérance made amends with the league win and qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Mokwana was a regular in this Espérance side, making 24 appearances and scoring three goals, as well as providing two assists.

He arrived at Espérance from Sekhukhune United on a three-year deal last year and won the Super Cup in February.

Overall, Mokwana has played 32 games for Espérance across all competitions, including the CAF Champions League, netting six goals and four assists.
