“I can’t put it into words, it was one of the most special days of my life.”
With these words, Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior has reacted to their Nedbank Cup success.
Chiefs beat rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday to take home the trophy.
This was Chiefs’s first major trophy in a decade, and Motaung Junior was relieved to finally achieve some success, but also to honour the club’s executive Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung Senior.
“We’re still in a process. Our youth team managed a trophy after [ten] years, so there’s a plan, a process,” he said.
“But also, at the same time, we are very fortunate to have the Chairman we do have, with the vision he has for the club, lightyears ahead of everyone, and still, right now, we tap into his wisdom with everything we do,” added Motaung Junior.
Chiefs have now won South Africa’s FA Cup a record 14 times, with Pirates in second place with 10 titles.
