Ethiopia has unveiled a comprehensive National E-Mobility Strategy and Implementation Framework, marking a new step in the country’s transition towards sustainable transport and a greener economy, reports Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a TV BRICS partner.

The new policy aims to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility across the transport sector while supporting national efforts to reduce emissions, strengthen climate resilience and modernise transport infrastructure.

The strategy was launched in Addis Ababa during a high-level event attended by government representatives, development partners and industry stakeholders. Officials described the initiative as a key component of Ethiopia’s broader green growth agenda and long-term economic transformation plans.

According to government representatives, the framework establishes a roadmap for developing a modern transport system centred on electric mobility and sustainable energy solutions. The strategy emphasises the need for coordinated action across multiple sectors, including transport, energy, logistics and urban planning.

A central objective of the initiative is the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure nationwide. The framework also prioritises the development of electric public transport networks, the integration of renewable energy sources into transport systems and the creation of environmentally sustainable urban mobility solutions.

Beyond environmental benefits, authorities expect the strategy to generate significant economic opportunities. The transition to electric mobility is projected to support industrial development through vehicle assembly, manufacturing expansion, technology transfer, workforce development and job creation.
