Ethiopia Targets 1.6 Million International Visitors in 2026/27

President Taye Atske Selassie outlined plans to strengthen tourism development and prepare the country for major international forums

Ethiopia aims to attract more than 1.6 million international visitors during the 2026/27 fiscal year as the government expands its tourism development initiatives. Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie announced the target during the joint opening session of the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation, reports Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, a partner of TV BRICS.

The President said Ethiopia is undertaking preparations to host major international events, including the upcoming COP32 Summit. According to him, the country’s tourism development strategy is being advanced alongside efforts to strengthen its role as a host for global forums.

Taye Atske Selassie also highlighted the connection between tourism and diplomatic activities. He said the government intends to use these areas to support broader national development and contribute to an economic growth rate of 10.1 per cent this year.

The President stressed the importance of national unity and a long-term approach to development. He said the government seeks to encourage citizens to contribute to the country’s prosperity while keeping the interests of future generations in mind.

According to Taye Atske Selassie, Ethiopia will rely on its domestic capabilities to achieve its strategic objectives. He pointed to knowledge, strong ethical standards, disciplined work and effective implementation as key elements in advancing national development.

The President added that the government plans to foster a professional working environment based on discipline, knowledge and hard work. These efforts are intended to support improvements in living standards and strengthen Ethiopia’s development trajectory.
