Ashwani Muthoo, Director General of the Independent Evaluation Office of the New Development Bank, spoke exclusively to TV BRICS about project evaluation and a new platform for sharing experience among BRICS countries
Knowledge sharing, experience and best practices can become key tools for improving the effectiveness of projects in BRICS countries. Ashwani Muthoo, Director General of the Independent Evaluation Office of the New Development Bank (NDB), said this in an exclusive comment to TV BRICS.
According to him, since its establishment in 2015, the NDB has funded more than 100 projects in BRICS countries and other NDB member states, with a total volume of around US$45 billion. The projects cover areas such as transport infrastructure, water management and renewable energy.
“I hope the summit also recognises the role of evaluation, including the role of the independent evaluation office at the New Development Bank in promoting accountability, in assessing results of projects and programmes, and in promoting better governance and transparency,” Ashwani Muthoo said.
He stressed that project evaluation not only makes it possible to assess the results achieved but also helps generate knowledge that can be applied in future initiatives.
“It is also about generating lessons and good practices that can be replicated across projects across BRICS countries for achieving better impact,” the expert said.
According to Ashwani Muthoo, the accumulated experience can be useful not only for projects financed by the NDB but also for initiatives implemented directly by the national governments of BRICS countries.
The expert also highlighted the launch of the BRICS-NDB Knowledge Portal during India’s BRICS Chairmanship. The platform is designed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and practical experience among BRICS countries.
Ashwani Muthoo also noted India’s active preparations for the BRICS Summit. In his view, the country’s government institutions are joining forces to ensure the success of the event and identify key areas for further cooperation.
