FAM 2026 features 46 films and takes place from 3 to 9 September
The 30th edition of the Florianópolis Audiovisual Mercosul International Film Festival (FAM 2026) will be held in Santa Catarina from 3 to 9 September. The event marks the 30th anniversary of the oldest film festival in the Brazilian state.
The festival is taking place at the Alvaro de Carvalho Theatre (TAC), in the city centre, and is organised by the Panvision Cultural Association, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to Tiago Santos, CEO of the Panvision Cultural Association, the festival serves as a platform for dialogue between the capital of Santa Catarina and the Latin American audiovisual sector, creating opportunities across different areas.
“FAM connects Florianopolis with Latin American audiovisual production, builds audiences, creates opportunities and reaffirms the importance of the capital having a public, accessible cinema in the city centre. Celebrating this journey also means defending the conditions necessary for the Festival and cinema to remain alive, present and relevant in the decades to come,” says the CEO.
FAM’s artistic director, Alissa Azambuja, emphasises that the return to the city centre and the choice of venue carry special significance for the festival’s history.
“The return to central Florianopolis, especially to the Alvaro de Carvalho Theatre, makes this edition even more symbolic: it is a reunion with the city, with cinema in the city centre and, above all, with the audience,” adds the artistic director.
This year’s programme features 46 films and more than 200 hours of planned activities, including screenings, workshops, discussion sessions and a cultural programme, with talks featuring invited experts and a walk through Florianópolis’ former cinemas in the city centre.
Highlights include a competitive showcase, in which seven films compete for the Panvision Award for Best Film in three categories; an online competitive showcase featuring five films from Brazil, Bolivia and Colombia; and the 10th Mercosur Co-production Meeting – Ibero-America Special (ECM+LAB 2026), which includes pitching sessions, business meetings and networking discussions.
The Florianópolis Audiovisual Mercosul International Film Festival (FAM) was established in 1997 with the aim of promoting the audiovisual sector in Santa Catarina and bringing together the cultures of Brazil and other Latin American countries through cinema.
